MALE VOICE: The assessments we do here are probably the most thorough or one of the most thorough in the country. So, we’re put a lot of energy and a lot of effort into them and they’re involved. Our goal is to truly get to know the client and let the client understand what they will need to do to have the best change to success. My job is to identify what were the conditions and factors that helped them to get into the condition that they are for obesity and once we figure that out, then we identify what they need per surgery in order to have the best chance for success.

MALE VOICE 1: Do they have a history of boredom eating. Do they have a history with emotionally eating; when they are stressed or depressed. What do they do with that, you know, do they have mood disturbance such as anxiety or depressive features. So if a patient has those issues it’s very important that they take care of those. Because they’re only going to help themselves by doing that and that’s huge.

FEMALE VOICE: The bariatric support group process is incredibly important. You not only need the education that we provide, but you need support of the other people that have been through it.

FEMALE VOICE 1: A lot of patients do not have support from their families and it’s very important for them to come to support group. To get the encouragement, to stay on track. Even if they’re doing well.

MALE VOICE 2: A lot of times what I hear from patients is that they get this feeling, “gosh, am I the only one that’s experienced this?” Well, one of the great things about being in a group setting, they can understand, they’re not the only ones that have gone through what we’ve gone through and that alone in itself is very therapeutic and encouraging for, you know, the patient.
