MALE VOICE: The current standard for bariatric surgery, as recommended by the National Institute of Health, is patients who are a BMI of 40 or more. That is a body mass index, which is roughly 100 pounds overweight.
MALE VOICE 1: For patients with a BMI of 35 or more, with - - morbidities.
MALE VOICE: Additionally, the National Institute of Health recommends that patients don’t move straight to surgery. That they’ve had a trial of medical weight lost and if that trial is then unsuccessful, then a patient would be a candidate for bariatric surgery.
